From Phelps to ASU to the 2016 Rio Olympics: Bob Bowman's Coaching Journey

Athletic Director Ray Anderson recruited ASU Swim and Dive Coach Bob Bowman to come to a successful ASU program in 2015. As Michael Phelps' long-time coach, Bowman has helped the most decorated Olympic athlete in history to win 18 gold medals.
Phelps followed Bowman to Arizona to train, and has now adopted ASU as his home where he often is found swimming in ASU's Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. Shortly after coming to ASU, Bowman was selected by the Olympic Committee as head swim coach for the 2016 Olympic U.S. Men's Swim Team.
However, Bowman shrugged the huge accomplishment off. Instead, he said, while being the head coach at the largest sports platform in the world is something to add to the resume, seeing the athletes he coaches succeed is something that means much more than gold to him. A mantra spoken by a man who knew he wanted to be a coach back in his high school days.
Now, he brings his success to ASU, hoping to cultivate more Olympic competors in the coming years.
