Dissecting their psyche
Ray Anderson on Expanding Arizona State's Olympic Culture
Vice President for ASU Athletics, Athletic Director and former NFL vice president of football operations Ray Anderson has been recruiting the highest talent in an effort to expand the growing Olympic culture at Arizona State University. The pieces of the culture include coaches such as Bob Bowman, Zeke Jones and after the Olympics, Michael Phelps.
It includes athletes that have clawed their way to the Olympics, enduring the physical and mental toll the endless training takes on the body and mind. Athletes like Gao Ao, Amy Hastings Cragg and Richard Bohus who went to the Games one person and came out another. It includes those who continue to train after they leave the university, like Bryan McBride, who learns from those before him on his journey to the upcoming trials.
Once there, the experience can oftentimes change one's trajectory in his or her sport, as well as in his or her life. However, it is the chance to appear at the largest sports platform in the world, that Ray Anderson works to achieve for the athletes in his ASU program. A program, that continues to grow, as each piece is cultured by superior training and unrivaled examples that these coaches and athletes lead.
